Methodology to quantify objectively Zn coating weight uniformity
Zinc coating weight on steel strip is affected by many process parameters, leading to non-uniform coatings. This can lead to surface quality issues and increased costs when thicker coatings are applied to ensure the minimum coating weight meets specification. A standard easy-to-run methodology is proposed to compute, not only the standard deviation of coating weight per strip side, but also coating quantities in relation to strip shape, nozzle adjustment, and other process and product parameters. The results obtained on two modern galvanising lines are presented.
