Green Graphite: Making the Steel Works Industry More Energy Efficient

One of the UK’s leading experts in graphite products, Coidan Graphite, are committed to supporting the steel sector in reducing their environmental footprint.
Graphite electrodes are a vital part of steel production. The Coidan Green Scheme promotes a more energy-efficient graphite production process which emits 99% fewer carbon emissions and prevents thousands of tonnes of used graphite being sent to landfill sites.
The team recover used or damaged graphite electrodes and recondition them into green graphite electrodes. The Green Scheme allows customers to exchange 6 tonnes of used or damaged UHP graphite electrodes and in return, they’ll receive 1 tonne of green graphite electrodes. As well as contributing to saving the environment and reducing waste and landfill, the green graphite electrodes also save customers on cost and deliver a high-quality electrode performance.
In addition, the trusted graphite partner will plant one tree at a local school or wildlife conservation area for every tonne of green graphite exchanged.
For more than 15 years, Coidan Graphite has worked with steel works companies such as Liberty Steel, Outokumpu, TATA and British Steel. Founder, David Coidan said, “We’re proud to be a zero-waste manufacturer and this scheme is an extension of our commitment to sustainable practices. For every tonne of graphite produced, 12 metric tonnes of greenhouse gases are emitted into the earth’s atmosphere – which is equivalent to charging over 1.5 million smartphones!
The Coidan Green Scheme is our conscious effort to significantly reduce this by recycling used and damaged electrodes. As a trusted graphite partner for over 40 years, our expert team has developed our reconditioning process so that it takes place within industry-regulated controls and checks and enhances the reliability of our product.”
Coidan Graphite have produced the following resource to demonstrate the energy saved by their Green Scheme: Coidan Carbon Footprint Calculator
Coidan is urging steel works companies around the world to consider this new, greener graphite manufacturing process. Get in touch with Coidan Graphite today to recycle and exchange your used or damaged graphite electrodes: https://www.coidan.com/green-graphite-electrodes/
